Incat Factory Hobart

We had a private tour of the Incat factory for the crew of the SV James Craig which was in Hobart for the Wooden Boat festival. Incat built six Emerald-class ferries and several fast catamarans for Sydney Harbour services.

Clifford launched his first high-speed aluminium catamaran on the Derwent River in 1977 and formally established Incat (International Catamarans) alongside naval architect Philip Hercus in 1978. Incat ferries operate worldwide in over 24 countries, and specialised variants have been utilised by the Australian and US military. The company was named the 2026 Tasmanian Exporter of the Year for its groundbreaking work on large-scale electric ferries. Incat won the 2026 Shippax High-Speed Ferry Award awarded for China Zorrilla (Hull 096) recognised as the largest fully electric battery-powered ship built worldwide.
