Seward, Alaska 2011
Seward, south of Anchorage, is my favourite Alaskan town. It is named after William H Seward who negotiated the buying of Alaska from Russia for $7.2 million, mocked at the time as "Seward's Folly". Start of the Alaska Rail Road line to Fairbanks. Jump off point for tours to the Kenai Fords NP and with an excellent aquarium. We caught the ferry from Valdez (east) to Whittier and drove down to Seward,
